Type: Semi-Modular Synthesizer
37-key analog paraphonic synthesizer that delivers the performative power of a traditional keyboard synth with the flexibility of a patchable modular system.
Taiga Keyboard is a 37-key analog paraphonic synthesizer that delivers the performative power of a traditional keyboard synth with the flexibility of a patchable modular system. Building on the advancements explored in the Taiga Desktop, Pittsburgh Modular has created a comprehensive platform for exploring modular synths with a focus on performative control. In this keyboard iteration of Taiga, controls have been spread out to make tweaking parameters during performance a breeze. Despite the added elbow room, Pittsburgh has managed to add an additional LFO, which along with the aftertouch-enabled keybed and multi-function modulation wheels adds a ton of new modulation sources for sculpting the innovative Taiga sound. Thanks to their 64 point patch bay and 24hp of expandable Eurorack space, Taiga Keyboard gives you plenty of room to explore beyond its already expansive sonic potential.
If you’re familiar with the Taiga desktop, the colorful assortment of modules in Taiga Keyboard makes clear that the signature sound has been carried on into this performance-oriented iteration. A convenient digital control section links Taiga’s parameters to MIDI information from the onboard keyboard or an external source for clocked modulation, arpeggiation, sequencing, and more. Three Pittsburgh oscillators give you access to traditional waveshapes, but may be radically morphed by proprietary cascading shapers and 6-stage wavefolder for each oscillator, providing a rich foundation of sounds to sculpt using the legendarily juicy and resonant PGH filter. A mixer section and preamp allow you to dial in the perfect oscillator balance and incorporate outside signals. Two envelopes and two LFOs give you powerful modulation sources for note shapes, timbral variety, and more, before passing through to the punchy and warm Dynamics section. This final stage acts as either a VCA or low-pass gate, for a flexible and organic amplifier that adds depth to the rich analog sound. Finally, the Echoes section provides a bucket-brigade delay effect for that final touch of analog ear-candy.
With a cornucopia of analog sound design tools to explore in Taiga Keyboard and even more possibilities accessible with its Eurorack expansion bay, Taiga Keyboard is a perfect as an all-in-one performance instrument and studio workhorse, or as a companion to a larger synth collection via its flexible connectivity. If you’re looking to explore modular synths through a keyboard interface, Taiga is the ultimate entry point to semi-modular synth shredding.
