Once upon a time the term "Bedroom Producer" would imply that you were some kind of musical hobbyist tinkering away making bleeps and boops, while the real producers were off in the big studios making hit records. The times have most definitely changed and nowadays more often than not the "Bedroom Producer" is the one making all the chart topping hits. They aren't hobbyists any more, their equipment is state of the art, and amongst other things they will likely own a quality vocal chain, consisting of a high quality microphone, a mic pre or compressor and be feeding that into a high quality audio interface. Not to mention what ever monitors and computer they also own, and let's face it they hardly scrimp on this end of things either.  A valuable investment when you're serious about making music

And yet, the majority of them (me included) are using some hand-me-down table or something they've cobbled together using various components from Ikea (to be fair some of the Ikea desk hacks are pretty impressive.), or in my case when I started out, an old door propped up by milk crates.  Not exactly an ideal platform (pun intended) for  supporting all of your expensive equipment.

The thing is, there haven't been many other options available, most studio based furniture is either cheap and poorly made or is prohibitively expensive, not to mention that their designs really don't reflect what is needed by this new generation of producers, and this is where the Platform stands out on all fronts. The Platform has been designed from the ground up and hones in on what is actually needed by the modern producer.

For example. Cabling; does your studio floor resemble mom's spaghetti?
The Output team have a specially designed a shelf at the back of the desk where you can lay your cables, keeping them well away from your feet! And Eminem's sweater.

Also there are holes situated in front of the rack spaces for things like USB cables and device cables, useful  for tablets and phones and along the top shelf there's a hole for your monitor's cabling, keeping everything neat and tidy.

It's these little features and many more that show just how much thought has gone into the design of this desk.

Another factor that makes these desks so special is that they are made with wood derived from 100% renewable sources, and how's this for "eco-friendly?" They're donating a portion of Platform’s sales to musician and environmentalist Ryuichi Sakamoto’s "More Trees" foundation to support their reforestation efforts. That's always nice to know huh?

Does your current studio desk look like a fat guy standing in the middle of a trampoline, because it's bowed so much under the weight of all your equipment?  Well fear not!

These desks are made from 100% Birch, chosen specifically for it's sturdiness and its resistance to warping. The main desk top area is particularly thick, which means this sucker is staying flat!

Rather than covering the Platform with paint, Output have chosen to stain the wood so you can easily admire the natural woodiness of it all. They come in 2 stained finishes, "Natural"  and "Kodiak Brown" both stains let you see the grain of the wood, and you'll be able to marvel at the unique patterns of the natural timber. Because of the glorious randomness of nature, nobody will have the exact same desk as you!  Yay for nature!

More importantly though it means that these desks look amazing, finally a piece of studio furniture that isn't an after thought or a cobbled together experiment.
This desk is designed for you and your unique set up,  whether it be your iMac, or computer monitor, or your controller keyboard or your Ableton Push controller or the multitude of other options that we have access to in this day and age. There's space for all of your bits and pieces and more!
Do you also have a few bits of rack gear? Like that vocal chain I mentioned earlier.
They've  looked after you  there too. The Platform comes with Rack ears for up to 9U of rack space. You can also flip the centre pillars to either be slanted or straight up and down depending on the look you're after.
    Very cool.

I could harp on about this desk forever, I've been frustrated for years by the lack of good quality studio furniture that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and my prayers have definitely been answered with the release of the Platform By Output.  I am beyond thrilled that Sounds Easy will be the distributor for the Platform desk and we will be having one set up as our main studio desk for all to peruse.

We are taking preorders now and are expecting our first shipment to be here by early December, just in time for Christmas.

Be quick, you don't want to miss out on getting one of these!
