The release of the Komplete Kontrol Mk2 has been a great step forward as far as integrating the Komplete Kontrol software, and controlling 3rd party DAWS.
In most cases it works seamlessly, but we've had a few people getting snagged on the Ableton set-up process.
We thought we'd put together a simple guide, and walk you through the steps.
Just a quick note, we are doing this guide just for Mac OS, but if you are having issues setting this up for your PC, please give us a cal and we'll guide you through it.
There's also a link at the bottom of the page that will take you to the the official NI setup guide.
Ok so we'll assume that you have downloaded and installed all necessary drivers, apps and updates where applicable, if you have, then Native Instruments have cleverly placed some files in a folder specifically for setting up Ableton.
How nice of them.
Ok so let's jump right into it.
here's the first place you need to go.
Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Native Instruments >
Host Integration > Ableton Live
To save you going back though this file structure again I'd recommend
creating a copy of this to your desktop, so it's easy to access during the setup.
Now we need to go to our Ableton Live app. and "right click" on the app itself.
Navigate to: Contents > App-Resources > MIDI Remote Scripts.
and put the Komplete Kontrol Mk2 folder in there.
I'm assuming that most of you had already gotten this far.
This will give the KK Mk2 control surface functionality, but without the next step you wont be able to access the features of the KK Mk2's browser functions.
So let's go do that now.
For the KK Mk2 to function properly you need to install the included Ableton instrument racks.
These guys.
They should be in your "host integration" folder that we saved to the desktop earlier.
Let's navigate to where we shall be putting these.
Macintosh HD > Users > *Username* > Music >
Ableton > User Library > Presets > Instruments > Instrument Rack
Once you have installed them, They will appear here in Ableton.
Just remember, that every time you want to use the KK Mk2's
full control and Library functions, that you'll have to load a Komplete Kontrol instrument rack.
We're almost done, now we just have to set up Ableton, and then
we're good to go.
let's go to Ableton's Midi prefs and set them as they are in this picture.
If you already have other control surfaces installed then just pick the next available slot.
Make sure you leave the "input" and "output" empty.
And at this stage I'd recommend rescanning your plug-ins.
Ok so that just about does it.
If you've followed all these instructions and are still having issues follow this link to the official Native Instruments guide, or give us a call here at the shop.
Have fun with you Komplete Kontrol Mk2 and all the very best from us here at Sounds Easy.
