Discrete dual channel 1073 preamplifier

The 1073MP is the most authentic and accurate sounding replica of a vintage 1073 preamplifier available today.

Unlike most 1073 clones and current made “N” 1073’s, the 1073MP uses a custom UK-made Sowter 1777 output transformer which is the only transformer we have found to truly replicate the original Marinair LO1166 smooth top end and larger than life low end which made this circuit designed by Rupert Neve 50 years ago the most sought after preamp in the world. With it’s stunning Marinair transformers, simple yet beautiful circuit, hand selected transistor as well as tantalum and polsytrene capacitors this preamplifier is by far the most requested tool around the globe.

At Stam Audio we have been building 1073’s replicas for almost a decade and decided to do our final revision with a custom Sowter output transformer, Carnhill VTB9045 input transformer, tantalum, polystyrene and Vishay capacitors as well as BC550C and 2n3055 transistors which are all measured one by one before being soldered into each channel. While time consuming this is the only way to achieve the same frequency response, THD and timbre found on vintage units. Without cutting any corners and making sure that it sounds exactly like an old unit from the 70’s we are confident that the 1073MP will be the last 1073 you’ll ever need.

The Transformers

Transformers are the single most important part of this circuit and the heart of any 1073 preamp. They provide the clarity and larger than life sound with unique low-mids and low end. The 1073mp uses a Carnhill VTB9045 input transformer on each channel which is a direct descendants of the the original Marinair and a custom UK-made Sowter 1777 output transformer which perfectly recreates the original Marinair LO1166 output transformer like you have never heard before. All transformers are tested and shipped from the UK to our lab were we tested them one by one to ensure each 1073mp is in spec and sounds the same

Capacitors and Transistors

After the Iron the one thing that makes this circuit stand out and gives it it’s original character are the polystyrene, tantalum and Vishay capacitors as well as the BC550 and 2n3055 transistors. Every single part is auditioned, measured and carefully hand soldered into each 1073MP. Precision metal film resistor are used through out the circuit with a 21 position gain switch providing up to 70dB of gain
