    Plug-Out – ProMars

    Roland AIRA System-1 Plug-Out ProMars

First up a little on the Plug-Out system:

The beauty of Plug-Out is that any new synth that Roland re-make will function as a VI within your DAW, and with the AIRA System-1 connected; you have full control of every parameter without any manual setup. Further to this if you want to play live you can then dump your Plug-Out synth into the hardware System - 1 so that you don’t need a computer to run it any more. Brilliant.

    Pro-Mars

Next up in the list of synths for Plug-Out is the rare and powerful ProMars Compuphonic.

The first thing you’ll notice about the ProMars is it has a rather awesome name. The ProMars Compuphonic dual Oscillator analogue Synth from 1979 was the precursor to the now Legendary Jupiter range of Roland Synths. Most notably the Jupiter 4. This synth was fat! This was due to the 2 Sub Oscillators that accompanied both VCO. It sounded way bigger than expected.

Much like the Jupiter 4; this synth got wood.It has 10 preset sounds and 10 user programmable patches. The preset sounds include all the classics like Bass, String, Clavi, Piano, Voice, Trombone, Sax, Trumpet, Synth I and Synth II. Further to this it can be operated manually using the VCO’s, VCF and envelope sliders.

The Roland Plug-Out ProMars is a faithful replica of the original unit, however for some reason the Plug-Out version has included a couple of VU meters something the original never had. Curious.
