Having recently released their stunning new Thunderbolt 2 enabled interfaces, Apogee have some significant announcements regarding use of the Apogee Ensemble.
The Ensemble driver will now support cascading of up to 4 x Ensemble interfaces, all operating at exceptionally low latency. Apogee claim tests conducted with Logic Pro X with a 32 buffer setting at 96kHz will result in a 1.1 ms “round trip”.
Also, the Ensemble’s driver features DMA - direct memory access. Running off the unit’s hardware logic chip, DMA allows the interface to communicate directly with your Mac’s memory, relieving the CPU. This significantly improves the drivers performance, allowing you to run higher plug-in counts at low buffer settings, and enables a higher resolution at the DAC stage.
