The company was founded in 1976 when they started servicing RCA ribbon microphones such as the RCA 44. By 1998 the company was manufacturing 100% of the parts for the RCA 44 so decided to release their own version of it. This gave rise to AEA Ribbon Mics as we know it today. 

The AEA A440 is the company’s flagship ribbon microphone and represents over 30 years of experience in the industry – it is touted as the quietest microphone ever produced. The R84 and A840 are also very popular microphones in the low to mid-priced categories.
