Royer Labs SF-12 Stereo Ribbon Microphone

The Royer SF-12 is a stereo ribbon microphone of the highest quality found in professional studios the world over. The SF-12 is commonly used for recording film scores and orchestral ensembles. Of key importance to the design of the SF-12, is that it incorporates 2 x matched ribbon microphones aligned on top of each other in a Blumlien stereo configuration. The SF-12 includes a Y cable, splitting into 2 x XLR three pin connectors for patching into a mic-preamp. The Royer SF-12 has an exceptionally detailed sound, with superb transient response. Be sure to check out some recordings on Royer Labs website.

        Stereo to Mono

        Recording in Mono:
Phase compatibility between the two sides of the SF-12 is excellent, allowing you to combine the two channels for mono recording without creating phase artifacts. This is particularly useful when capturing a wide sound field in mono; for instance, a singer who tends to move off the “sweet spot” of a mono microphone. Either side of the SF-12 can also be used individually as a mono microphone.
